How pricing works

No dollar figures on this page, because the readings come first. This is what we tell you before you ask.

  • What decides the price

Humidity jobs vary less by the machine than by the house around it.

    • Whether the house has ducts a dehumidifier can tie into

    • How big the space is, from the readings

    • Access: an attic, a tight crawlspace or a second floor

    • A condensate drain, a new circuit or a ground cover

    • Whether a closed crawlspace or sealed vents are needed first

  • What the estimate includes, and what it doesn't

A written scope you can read at the table.

    • The readings, in a one-page summary

    • The equipment model, where it goes and where it drains

    • Permit, if the work needs one, and haul-away of anything we remove

    • Not included: sealing leaks in the house itself, mold testing or water damage repair

    • The scope says how long the estimate holds

  • What happens at the visit

We place the loggers, walk the house and the crawlspace, and time a cooling cycle.

    • The visit fee is quoted when you book

    • If you hire us for equipment, it is credited toward the work

    • You get the readings back in writing

  • After hours

We don't offer an after-hours service: moisture work is planned work.

    • Voicemail is returned first thing the next working day

    • If water got into the house, call a water-damage company first, and call us once it is dry

  • When you get the number

After the readings are back, in writing, before any work starts.

    • A flat price for the scope as written

    • A change to the scope is agreed in writing before it is done

The written scope

What the paper you get back lists.

You can read it at the table and compare it with another company's.

  • The readings

The one-page summary that led to the scope.

  • The equipment

The model, and where it will sit.

  • The drain and power

Where the water goes, and any new circuit or pump.

  • Permit and haul-away

If the work needs a permit, and anything we take away.

  • What is not included

Written out, so nothing is assumed.

  • How long it holds

The date the estimate runs to, and the manufacturer's warranty terms in their own words.

Questions

Questions about quotes.

What does the first visit cost?

The visit fee is quoted when you book, in writing. If you hire us for equipment, the fee is credited toward the work. See how pricing works for what a written scope contains.

We had water in the house. Can you help?

Call a water-damage company first to dry the structure. When the house is dry, we can read it and tell you whether it needs help staying that way.

Can a portable dehumidifier do the job?

For one room or a closet, often yes. For a whole house, or the air under it, a portable unit runs constantly and still leaves the rest damp. The readings show which case you have.

Ready for a number?

Book the humidity check. The scope comes after the readings, before any work.
